The ranks involved in the alleged beating of four teenage boys at the Charity Police Station, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) are on the job even as the matter is being investigated.Police Commissioner Leslie James on Monday said that he has received a report of the incident from the Divisional Commander and an investigation has been launched into the matter. The Top Cop said that while the ranks remain on duty, relevant decisions will be made based on the outcome of the investigation.“They are still on the job…at some point some action will be taken, but they are still on the job. They are still currently where they were. They have not been removed but a decision will be taken once that is necessary,” James said.Speaking to this publication on Tuesday, the grandmother of one of the young men; Helen Seenauth said that her grandson is at home recovering. The distraught grandmother said that the young man was shackled, stripped naked and brutalised by ranks at the Charity Police Station. She added that the boys were taken to the station on Monday afternoon, where they positively identified the rank responsible for the beating. However, he has denied the allegation, claiming that he has no knowledge of it and claimed that he was not the arresting officer. There are also reports of one of the teens losing his hearing as a result of the alleged beating.According to the grandmother, she is not aware of any offence committed by the boys or the reason for their arrest. The reports of alleged beating surfaced last weekend when the teenagers claimed that they were stripped naked, shackled and brutalised on separate occasions at the Charity Police Station. Aside from being beaten, it was also claimed that one of the boys was choked with an electrical cord.Reports are that the teens are school dropouts, who were picked up and detained by the police for loitering. A video of one of the teenagers displaying injuries he suffered surfaced on Facebook. In the video, the teen alleged that the police covered his head with a bag and beat him which resulted in him receiving injuries to his ear.

After 25 years of coaching wrestling at the high school level, including 20 years as Downey’s varsity coach, Gordon Weisenburger retired at the conclusion of last season. So this year, Weisenburger has a different perspective on the prep wrestling scene. “This was the first Christmas that I haven’t been involved in a wrestling tournament,” Weisenburger said. Over his tenure, he led the Vikings to 12 San Gabriel Valley League titles and a CIF Southern Section team Division V title in 2004. He also compiled a 72-13 league record and a total record of 482-191. He produced 86 league champions, including 44 that placed at the CIF-SS Individuals, including his son Jace Weisenburger in 2001. “It was a very special time for me,” the coach said. “I was able to see my son mature and develop under my supervision.” This small victory was huge to first-year coach Vince Nicholson, whose team lost 51-29 to the same squad at Oxford Academy during Christmas break. “We started with a really bad loss to Dominguez,” Nicholson said. “We practiced and worked hard on our weaknesses. We executed our game plan. It was kind of nice to get that win and get the monkey off our back.” — Earl Williams BOYS BASKETBALL Before Jordan hosts Poly on Friday night in a huge Moore League showdown, it surprisingly has another big game on Wednesday. The Panthers (12-3, 1-0) will play at Millikan at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Rams are 8-8 overall, but they are in first place in league with a 2-0 record. A victory by Millikan over a team like Jordan would be quite a coup. “Well, every game in league is a big game, but obviously, Jordan is probably the favorite to win our league so this game will be bigger than normal,” Rams coach Raul Olivas said. “I think we’re at a point where we can compete with anybody, but we have to take care of the ball against Jordan. “They cause a lot of turnovers, they play hard and they change defenses a lot. If they trap us, we have to know where to get the ball to. If we want to be considered one of the top teams in league, we have to show something Wednesday night.” FOOTBALL On Dec. 1, Joe Biagioni resigned as the football coach at Warren for personal reasons. But last week, Biagioni said it won’t be the last time you see him standing on the sidelines. “I wanted to do something different,” Biagioni said. “I used to coach at Cerritos College and Whittier College and I think I want to go back to coaching JCs again. “But I enjoyed my time at Warren and I enjoyed the opportunities I had there.” Biagioni, 35, still teaches physical education at Warren. — Ben Villa TRACK & FIELD Ebony Collins and De Ana Carson of Wilson High, Poly’s Shana Woods and Myra Hasson of Gardena are among the top entrants for the Run for the Dream indoor meet at the SaveMart Center at Fresno State on Jan. 16. Carson, a Baylor signee, is scheduled to compete in the 55, 55 hurdles and the long jump. Wilson will also field teams in the 4×440-and 4×880-yard relays. The Good Morning Service co-ordinator, Frances Browne, said they are trying to reassure the elderly people of Donegal that help is at hand.“Our team of volunteers provide a supportive, friendly voice that reassures our clients that, thankfully, these robberies and break ins are not widespread. We work with them daily, on behalf of our clients, to ensure they each have a personal alarm,” she said. The service supports over 400 older people in the county, with over 120 volunteers making more than 900 calls to them per week. The calls are made at an agreed time and can be daily or once a week, depending on the preferences of the client. Donegal and Gaoth Dobhair are sweating on the fitness of Cian Mulligan after a fresh injury blow.Mulligan was on the cusp of a return to action at the weekend having injured a quad muscle in the Dr McKenna Cup win over Queen’s last month.Mulligan kicked two points in that game, but pulled up and has been sidelined for the last month. Having missed Gaoth Dobhair’s Ulster U21 wins against O’Donovan Rossa and Donaghmoyne, he had been set to return in yesterday’s semi-final against Carryduff in Creggan. However, Donegal senior manager Declan Bonner revealed that Mulligan suffered a ‘set back’ during the week when he pulled up at training.Mulligan is now in a race against time to be fit for the Ulster U21 final in a fortnight’s time.It is also a busy spell for Donegal, who take on Dublin in Croke Park on Saturday night before meeting Tyrone in the Dr McKenna Cup final seven days later at Celtic Park. Donegal are still without a raft of players with the likes of Jason McGee, Michael Langan, Jamie Brennan and Mark Anthony McGinley, not to mention the experienced frontline men Michael Murphy, Frank McGlynn, Neil McGee, Paddy McGrath and Martin McElhinney.“We’ve anything up to nine or 10 lads to come back into that group,” Bonner said.“We’d hope to have those guys back for the fourth game and some of them are on track and some are not. We just ned that experience back in.“We still have an awful lot of lads to come back into that set-up, and a lot of experience that you really need on the pitch, especially in the latter stages of a match like that when you’re looking for a score.”An inexperienced Donegal, led by the on-form Patrick McBrearty, turned the tables on Galway for a brief period in the second half in Letterkenny yesterday, but Galway eked out a narrow win thanks to a late score by sub Seán Armstrong. Bonner said: “I’ve said it and I keep repeating myself but the league is about learning for a lot of these players. We want to win games but at the minute it’s just difficult. No more than last week, we probably should’ve got something out of it.”Fresh injury blow for Mulligan leaves Donegal and Gaoth Dobhair sweating was last modified: February 6th, 2018 by Chris McNultyShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:2018 Allianz LeagueCian MulliganDeclan BonnerdonegalDonegal GAAGaoth DobhairJamie BrennanJason McGeeMark Anthony McGinleyMichael Langan

After assaulting a member of staff at LUH, Ward became abusive, referring to female members of staff in the hospital as ‘c****’.The court heard that Ward continued his aggressive behaviour after being arrested and called Gardaí ‘c****’.“When taken to Letterkenny Garda Station, he exposed himself and tried to urinate at the hatch,” Sergeant Jim Collins told the court. “He proceeded to urinate at the cell door.”Solicitor for Ward, Patsy Gallagher, said his client suffers from ‘a disease of loneliness’. “He can’t believe he did it,” Mr Gallagher said. “He had bene self medicating and had been in contact with an organisation, who he spoke with until assistance came. He has got progressively worse, physically and mentally.”Judge Paul Kelly said: “The court and the probation services have bent over backwards previously. We have heard this before and now he is back causing trouble for people in the hospital and he broke a peace bond.” Judge Kelly imposed a fine of €100, giving six months to pay, for the public order offence. For the assault on the staff member at LUH, Ward was given a two-month sentence, suspended for 12 months on his own bond of €100 and with the condition that he not commit any offence under the non-fatal offences against the person act.Suspended sentence for man who urinated in Garda station was last modified: June 21st, 2019 by Chris McNultyShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:Judge Paul KellyletterkennyLetterkenny District CourtLetterkenny Garda stationTony Ward
CLICK HERE if you are having a problem viewing the photos or video on a mobile deviceOAKLAND — There’s no question that DeMarcus Cousins has been a welcome addition to the Warriors this season. But the big man has yet to reach peak form coming off an Achilles tendon injury that could prove to be career-defining.His offensive game is sputtering — over his last seven contests, he has averaged 39 percent from the floor and 16 percent from behind the arc — and his defense has been lacking from …
OAKLAND – Rick Celebrini, the Warriors’ director of sports medicine and performance, gave DeMarcus Cousins the soundtrack of his rehab from training camp to mid-January.“There’s going to be good days and a lot of bad days,” Cousins said verbatim. “Obviously I’m in the bad days right now.”Is he ever. It has been developed in partnership with the department, the National Youth Service Programme and 15 Further Education and Training (FET) colleges.“The programme is a multi-pronged approach that combines the delivery of information and communication technology skills training and life orientation to young people so that they acquire skills in the field of ICT,” said communications minister Siphiwe Nyanda at the launch. The programme will not only give young people valuable skills, it will also help improve the delivery of essential services to local communities, using ICT. Graduates will therefore be given the name “e-Cadres”.“This puts them in a better position to act as conduits to their communities to access government services and programmes through the use of ICTs,” Nyanda said. The e-Cadres, he said, will “work with government in addressing the many challenges facing our people”. The e-Cadre initiative, he said, was one of the department’s “dashboard priority” programmes. On graduation these e-Cadres will work with various forms of digital technology in government institutions such as clinics, schools, police stations, local municipality offices and post offices.“We believe that ICTs can create greater access to opportunities, redress inequalities [an] improve the quality of teaching and learning,” Nyanda said. He added that the e-Cadres must show “commitment, dedication and professionalism” when working as public servants. Some R8-million (US$1.1-million) has already been spent on the programme; the department has committed further funds for deploying graduates into their new public service positions. So far, the department has already deployed 765 matriculants who earned their International Computer Driving Licence at FET colleges as e-Cadres, as well as 350 ICT graduates. The department wants to use the project to address “one of the key challenges facing South Africa, the creation of skilled personnel to respond to the human resource needs our thriving economy requires, especially in the ICT sector,” the minister said.“Our success will be measured on our ability to ensure that the participants acquire a set of key skills that would enable them to contribute towards the growth of our economy in general and the ICT industry in particular.”He added that FET colleges are already making an impact by producing graduates of a high quality, as well as “establishing closer partnerships with prospective employers and sector education and training authorities”.At the launch, Nyanda announced that the Department of Communications is in the process of developing a comprehensive strategy on providing ICT skills to South Africa’s youth. The strategy will provide guidelines to the government, state-owned enterprises and the ICT sector on ways technology can be used for youth development. The strategy, is expected to be finalised by end 2009, will be launched in the first quarter of 2010.
